Travel deals abound at Travelzoo

Folks in our area are used to referring to Kalamazoo-related topics by tacking a “zoo” on the end of them. So you may think Travelzoo has a local connection. It does not. But local travelers who visit will discover what fourteen million others subscribers have—Travelzoo is the hottest travel info source out there.

“Travelzoo is the most trusted publisher of travel deals. Our team researches, evaluates and tests thousands of deals to find those with true value. We recommend only deals whose accuracy and availability we can confirm. With over 14 million subscribers, we are the largest publisher of travel deals on the Internet.

“More than 900 leading travel companies list their very best offers with us. We have deal experts (we call them producers) located in 21 offices across North America, Europe and Asia to work with these companies and to provide you the smartest information.

“While it does cost companies money to have their deals listed on Travelzoo, no amount of money ensures that a deal will get listed.”

One of their most popular features is the weekly Top 20 list. “The Travelzoo Top 20 is the definitive list of the week’s best travel deals. Every week, our team researches, evaluates and recommends hundreds of airfare, hotel, vacation package, cruise and rental car deals. Only the most competitive make the Top 20. Our Test Booking Center confirms the accuracy and availability of every deal before the list goes out.”

The Top 20 list encompasses deals from around the globe. In fact, in addition to the U.S. edition, Travelzoo has separate versions for Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Spain, Taiwan and the United Kingdom. Here’s a sampling of the locations represented in the January 21, 2009, list: London, Puerto Rico, Montreal, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Hawaii and Maryland. Also included is a section highlighting the week’s top shows and events—and where and how you can get breaks on tickets.

The 1/21/09 list had a destination feature on Washington, D.C. It included a dozen deals on hotels, airfare and restaurants as well as a list of Travelzoo picks for D.C. and additional travel tips for the capital city.

Travelzoo gives you plenty of search options—airfare, hotels, car rentals, cruises, vacations, shows & events, last minute, flight search, hotel search, top 20 and newsflash. I especially like going in and searching for hotels in nearby cities. For example, you can quickly see if Travelzoo has anything in a handful of key Midwest cities.

One of their features makes this even easier. It’s called “Deals Near You.” Clicking into this section today (1/31/09), I found 14 deals on hotels, shows and events in the nearby cities of Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee and Indianapolis.

With the economy as tight as it is, it’s likely that travel deals will be multiplied by companies and hotel chains eager to attract increasingly tight-fisted travelers. It’s a trend that will probably kick into an even higher gear as the traditional travel/vacation season approaches. I’m already seeing lots of email promotions trumpeting deals at a variety of destinations. Travelzoo is a great way to stay on top of all of these.
