B & Bs offer recession relief with “tanks for traveling” offers

“Tanks for Traveling” is what members of BedandBreakfast.com have dubbed their effort to reward value-conscious B&B travelers. This is the sixth year in a row that the organization’s members have been “putting money where their guests need it most—into their gas tanks, their stomachs and back into their wallets. Knowing that B&B travelers are increasingly interested in traveling green and saving some too, BedandBreakfast.com members have crafted a number of creative offers to reward guests and say ‘Tank You’ for traveling.”

Members in nearly 40 states and several foreign countries have created more than 150 money-saving deals for B&Bers. Those deals plus the results of a recent survey among 37,000 travelers offer reasons to be encouraged about the upcoming travel season. According to the survey results, 75% of the respondents said they were looking forward to taking between two and four getaways between now and the end of September. More than 80% of those responding said they planned to stay in B&Bs during these upcoming trips. About three-quarters (73%) said they were planning trips of fewer than 150 miles. Citing the state of the economy, many respondents expressed a preference for shorter trips closer to home.

So what are some of these deals and are they at properties nearby? Here’s a brief sample and I’ll post again soon to share some deals across the Midwest. To take advantage of these offers, mention the BedandBreakfast.com Tanks for Traveling promotion.

The Munro House B&B and Spa in Jonesville, MI, is offering their own bail out through the end of April. “Couples who stay close to home for a two-night getaway at the Munro House in Jonesville can get up to $150 off. Just tell us you want the ‘BAIL OUT’ package and give us your home address. Google Maps will tell us the mileage from your house to ours. We will then take that mileage and subtract it from 150 and send you a voucher worth $1 per mile off your staycation.” Call 517/849-9292 for details.

Muskegon’s Port City Victorian Inn (231/759-0205) has a plan to share $25 toward your next gasoline fill up through the end of April. If you visit the Victoria Resort Bed and Breakfast in South Haven (269/637-6414) and stay two nights in a guest room with a fireplace and whirlpool tub between now and April 30, you can earn a $50 gift certificate toward dinner at a downtown restaurant or a one-hour massage (valued at $65). The Parish House Inn in Ypsilanti (734-480-4800) is offering 20% off a three-day and two-night stay in selected rooms through the end of May. You can also get a 10% discount at Haab’s Restaurant.

Two inns in Galena, Illinois, are offering gift cards for in-town shopping and special lodging prices. Check out the details at the Aldrich Guest House (or call 815/777-3323) and the Steamboat House Bed and Breakfast (or 815/777-2317), both in Galena, Illinois. At Hidden Lake B&B (618/833-5252) in Jonesboro, IL, you can get a $30 gas credit by paying cash for your stay.
